History

Mesa de la Misericordia, Inc. was founded in February 2018 by members of the Venezuelan diaspora based in Miami, FL, United States, as their contribution to provide relief and create awareness around the globe of the crisis being suffered by our Venezuelan brothers. The organization was formed under IRC 501 (c)3 as a Non-Profit – Tax Exempt corporation, regulated by the Florida State Department and the Internal Revenue Services (IRS).

As seen by the world and suffered by its citizens, Venezuela has become a silent battlefield, where individuals, families and communities suffer and struggle daily to obtain basic sustenance. The founders and volunteers of our organization have experienced first-hand, directly and indirectly, the magnitude of the physical and spiritual crisis that the country is going through. The urgent and vital need for food, health, personal hygiene, and clothing motivated the founding of Mesa de la Misericordia as a basic human gesture of love, solidarity, recognition, hope, and trust in God's mercy and grace to support our Venezuelan brothers for the duration of the crisis in the country, while at the same time, developing initiatives that promote the integral development of the individual, based on our Principles and Values.

Mesa de la Misericordia’s Board of Directors made the decision to join efforts with the San Antonio Maria Claret Catholic Parish in Maracaibo, capital city of the Zulia State in Venezuela, to act as our local partner help us identify, evaluate, and execute on our mission as providers of basic needs for civil and religious organizations in the area, thus establishing a vehicle of action to bring support resources to those most in need.

Today, Mesa de la Misericordia volunteers in the US, working as a team with volunteers from San Antonio María Claret Catholic Parish, covers basic needs of the community and other local organizations it serves, such as pastoral ministries, community support apostolates, seminaries, as well as management and support personnel, teachers, and staff of educational institutions in our communities.

Our contribution reaches our communities through the work of our volunteers that operate community kitchens, deliver mercy bags with food sustenance, basic medicines, personal hygiene items and, in specific cases, clothing and footwear. Additionally, and following strict hygiene protocols, we provide the necessary supplies to enable personal hygiene units and medical / dental services for the benefit of the people. Finally, and as a “cornerstone” of our mission, our local volunteers, following strict biosecurity guidelines, promote, organize and facilitate meetings to share and live the Word of God.

Additionally, we have been able to develop grace initiatives, such as the construction of a water well to strengthen the mission of meeting the basic needs of the community. Our Mission is not only to provide for the physical needs of our brothers, but also to feed the spirit of each person in need with the hope of the Word of God. By achieving these two goals, we want to establish a “call to action”, in the present and looking to the future, the need to strengthen our moral and social values and use them as tools to promote dignity, self-respect and most important of all, trust and hope for a new beginning for ALL and for Venezuela.
