The Mesa de la Misericordia is an initiative of the San Antonio María Claret Church, in the city of Maracaibo, Venezuela, which emerged from the situation of extreme hunger and malnutrition that is increasing day by day in the country.
Our city, like so many others in Venezuela, has become a silent battlefield of daily struggles to get food. The sad picture of a father and his little son fighting for garbage bags with a dog hit our souls and we decided that we should start doing something. Thus, inspired by the jubilee of mercy called by Pope Francis, we started the project of the table of mercy to feed the needy and on February 25, 2017 we served the first dishes of food to 150 people of the surrounding areas. Today we serve more than 850 people and not only calm their hunger for a day, but little by little we feed their spirit with the hope of the word of God.
